In the never-ending battle between progress and heritage protection, there's a new front today

The Sarnia Road bridge.

A report will go to the Environment and Transportation Committee today recommending that the more than 100 year old bridge be replaced.

Councillor Paul Hubert, chair of the ETC, tells NewsTalk 1290 replacing the bridge will improve traffic flow on Sarnia Road.

The price-tag for the overall project, which will include improvements to Sarnia Road, comes in around 16 million dollars.

Hubert says they hope to move the historic bridge to another location, perhaps as a foot bridge at a golf course or for use at Fanshawe Pioneer village.

But so far, there has been no takers.
